Full-stack web application for the local Catholic parish
- Designed and developed a parish portal with several content sections, including News, Articles, History, and Pilgrimage. Added tags for the Seven Sacraments and parish groups to make related content easier to find.
- Created a digital archive of the parish historical gazette, with issues from 1993 to 2000 organized by publication and date.
- Added a Podcasts section with embedded audio players for Vatican Radio’s Russian service and Radio Favor, along with a separate gallery for parish videos.
- Built a section for weekly Mass schedules and parish announcements, with information updated and displayed according to publication dates.
- Created a faith Q&A section called “Answers” and added SEO-friendly URLs, cookie consent, and a privacy policy.
- Optimized images for web use with WebP and built the interface with a responsive, mobile-first layout.
Challenges
The website was created for a local Catholic community. The goal was to reflect both the history and the present-day life of the parish, while highlighting the people who have been involved - and continue to be involved - in the community.
Since different members contribute through different activities, we decided to bring several types of content together: audio podcasts, videos, articles, archived newspapers, news, and announcements that could be useful to parishioners.
As a tribute to parishioners who spoke different languages, the website also needed to preserve access to content in the languages that had been part of the parish's history.
Solution
We added Russian-language Vatican Radio, reformatted podcasts from video-hosting platforms, and a system for creating and downloading archived newspapers. Content can also be switched between available language versions whenever a translation exists.
The website provides a place to publish news, announcements, and other information useful to parishioners.
The solution combines AI language models, content parsing, multiple databases, and topic-based content organization to bring all of these different sources together.
